Six Tips for Getting Traffic to Your Website
Any article you read about creating a sucessful website will talk the significance of generating traffic. Human visitors are extremely important if you want to achieve the goals of any Internet based business. You can have one of the best designed websites and a great product or service to sell, but without traffic you will not sell anything.
Whether you have a website and are not getting sufficient traffic, or thinking about starting a new website, obtaining visitors should be at or near the top of your list of main concerns. Be sure you have allocated dollars in your Marketing budget for Internet marketing.

Exchange Links with Other Websites
While one-way links coming into your website are preferred, when you exchange links with other sites both sites gain from those exchanges as the traffic can flow both ways. This is particularly helpful to you if the other site gets a fair amount of traffic. Visitors will follow the link to your site helping it to rank higher as well as bringing in potential customers. The more links you achieve with other high ranking relevant websites, the more traffic you can anticipate. Keep in mind throughout your campaign to try and obtain links from websites that are in the same or similar market as your site.
Search Engine Optimization
Making sure you use appropriate keywords/keyword phrases that emphasize your website’s content when you design your website will help to make it search engine friendly. Search engines index the keywords they find and use them to serve up results pages. Having the right keywords and keyword phrases (keyphrases) that people are searching for is will help your website to rank well in the search engines and bring traffic to your site.
Utilize Pay-per-Click (PPC) advertising
Google’s Adwords and Yahoo’s Search Marketing programs offer great advertising avenues that are very well-respected and promise you targeted traffic. As this is a reliable way to produce traffic, the downside is that it can be expensive depending on the keywords you choose to bid on. While there are some drawbacks to running these types of campaigns to increase traffic, they are a sure fire way to bring visitors to your website.
Article Submissions
Submit your articles to publishers of newsletters, other websites and article directories. Take care that you add a paragraph about yourself and include a link back to your website. Ideally, if your article is about something you have to offer, include a link to your website somewhere within the article. As your articles get published, not only will they be directing readers to your website, you will also acquire back links which will help boost your website’s ranking.
Join Forums and Add to Discussions
By becoming an active member of an online community and responding to forum and discussion posts you will develop trust and credibility and your site will benefit from the traffic of those wanting to visit it to become more familiar with you, your product or service. They may also even link to your site as a reliable source for information.
Viral Marketing
Viral marketing can allow you to publicize your company or product by posting something on your website that will catch on and be forwarded to various mailing lists. For instance a funny video, interesting article or news story would potentially be things that people find interesting enough to tell their friends, family and colleagues about and some may even link to it from their websites briniging additional value.
